Trina album preview. Features "Gucci Shoe Shoppin" with P-Dub
For a rapper who introduced herself to the world as Da Baddest Bitch, Trina is pretty nervous about her upcoming fifth album Amazing. During an intimate listening session yesterday at EMI Records, the Diamond Princess shrunk back in her chair as she settled in, dressed surprisingly reserved for her standards: she wore a turquoise vest with magenta mink trimming, gold and black skintight pants, black stilettos with hot pink heels and a thick, plump diamond ring sitting on her finger. This, for Trina, is nun status.
“I’m a little nervous,” she said before playing us 10 of the 14 cuts off her forthcoming album. And while you’d expect the tracks to sting with the sexual ferocity of her previous four efforts, Amazing is somewhat of a departure for the Miama mami. With production from Scife, Rico Love, JR Rotem, Jim Jonsin and more and guest appearances from Diddy, Keri Hilson, Monica, Trey Songz, Flo Rida, Nicki Minaj, Lyfe Jennings, Lady Gaga and a host of others, Amazing is catered for the dance floor – something that Trina stated she wanted to hear when she’s getting her sip on at the club. Though we only heard a few minutes of each track, it’s a lot less explicit than usual fare – a sign that Trina might be growing up. Hit the jump to get a preview of each track before the album hits stores May 4th.
Amazing (prod. by Young Yonny)
“Who is Trina?” she asks on this laid-back track. “I’m sure that’s not the only question you want answered.” “I am Miami,” she boldly declares, stating “Not just a rapper, but a businesswoman” before the beat kicks in. Epic way to start off the album, but Trina cut off the track just as the first verse came on, so we’ll have to wait until the full joint drops to hear if the rest is just as mean.
That’s My Attitude (prod. by Scife)
“This is the street record we put out,” Trina briefly explained before playing this taunting, boastful anthem. Nothing we haven’t heard before, but pretty brolic in studio speakers.
Million Dollar Girl featuring Diddy and Keri Hilson (prod. by Mario Winans and CP Hollywood)
This one’s the official single. Trina stated that the video should be out for the jawn in the next couple of weeks, and that they were just waiting on the special effects to be added. Keep those eyes peeled – Trina looks spicy in the preview pics for this one.
My Bitches (prod. by Scife)
We only got one verse of this one, too, but it’s a club-ready anthem complete with an aerobic drum pattern and a brooding wall of synths. “I love my bitches / Get it on the floor,” she commands. “We allergic to broke niggas.” Still diggin’ for those riches.
I Go So Hard featuring Shonie (prod. by Rico Love)
This joint has a heavy jungle music sound with its undulating congo drum thythm and blurting brass melody. “I know you see me on the video / I know you heard me on the radio,” she raps on the chorus, citing Lil’ Kim’s classic “Crush on You.” “Why live married / I live like I’m divorced,” she playfully quips on this ode to landing a man for his riches.
Dang A Lang featuring Nicki Minaj and Lady Saw (prod. by Frank E)
Without a doubt, this is the hottest collabo joint that she played for us. With Latin flavor, steel pan hits and speakerboxing percussion, “Dang A Lang” is that ladies anthem, with Lady Saw bringing the island flavor on the chorus and Trina and Nicki holding it down on verse duties. “Juggle ya balls like the Ringling Brothers,” raps Nicki in her signature accented flow. Just wait until you hear this one.
On Da Hush featuring Shonie (prod. by JR Rotem)
The track kicks off with octave-reaching piano chords, giving way to hearty flute chirps on the rest of the tune. “I’ll be your undercover lady,” sings Shonie on this dedication to being the chick on the side. Most reminiscent of “I Got a Thang” from Trina’s last album.
Make Way featuring Lyfe Jennings (prod. by Cozmo)
Bare synth plucks and a billowing synth line drive “Make Way,” where Trina raps, “B-E-T you you know you owe me / So show me / Homie.” Not the most memorable joint, but nice to hear some testosterone on this estrogen-fueled album.
Hoes Fight featuring Lady Gaga and Kalenna (of Dirty Money) (prod. by Jim Jonsin)
Trina explained that Gaga originally sent this to Jim with Trina in mind, so she went and tacked on Diddy’s angel for this futuristic burlesque number. “Hoes is fighting in these streets!” exclaims Gaga. Female anthem for sure.
Gucci Shoe Shoppin’ featuring P-Dub (prod. by Goodwill and MGI)
What’s a Trina album without a song extolling materialism? More of a rock track than the rest, this one sees P-Dub singing on the chorus, “Hell nah, she not rockin’ them Louis / That Prada.” It’s all about the Gucci, baby.

Trina was waiting on the other tracks to be mixed, she explained the others before calling it a wrap. The joints we didn’t hear:
I Want It All featuring Monica
White Girls featuring Flo Rida (“It’s the pop record,” she said)
Showing Out featuring Trey Songz (“It’s about being a girl, being fly, showing out and having a good time,” she explained of the track)
Capricorn (“This is Lauryn Hillish,” she said, describing it more as spoken-word poetry)
